There is a tall, dead tree covered in vines at the Venice Rookery that is protected with a fence and stands near where photographers set up their tripods to photograph the nesting birds. I've seen owls, hawks, woodpeckers and other birds on the tree, but never a heron prior to this one. He stood in the morning sun watching all the action for about twenty minutes, allowing me to capture him as well as the tree.
