Story behind the photo: This Brown Pelican is just landing on the South Jetty in Venice, Florida. His webbed feet are barely above the rocks in this photograph, as he brakes with a wingspan that can be just over eight feet in width. Even so, Brown Pelicans are the smallest of the eight worldwide species of Pelicans.
