"Acorn Woodpecker in Madera Canyon"

In Madera Canyon, located in southeastern Arizona, an Acorn Woodpecker (Melanerpes formicivorus) clings to a nesting hole. These are very social birds, and are often seen in groups.

The woodpecker though is just a focal point for this amazing tree and the background bokeh that reminds me of stained glass. This was taken this last weekend and Madera Canyon was bathed in the pastel colors of a desert morning in Autumn.
